Of the many dining experiences available at the Walt Disney World Resort, one of my all-time favorites is the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue , located in the Pioneer Hall at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Combining hilarious jokes with singing and “a finger-lickin’ countrified feast,” the Revue is an amazing experience that anyone who calls him or herself a Disney fanatic absolutely must do at least once.
My first (and only to this point) experience with the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue was in the Summer of 2012. My family and I were staying at The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort that vacation, which happens to be on the same grounds as the dining venue. When we first arrived, we stood stand in line to have our family’s picture taken – a keepsake of the evening. After the photo session, we waited patiently until we were permitted to enter the building, which was signaled by a chosen Guest’s ringing of the dinner bell. Once inside, dinner began near immediately And what a dinner it was! Heaps and heaps of food were brought to our little table in the back, filling up even the hungriest of us (of course, that’s me). While we were feasting on fried chicken, ribs, potatoes, corn and beans, we were entertained by a group of zany hosts on the stage to the front. They involved the audience as much as they could, calling out those celebrating birthdays, couples with anniversaries, and, of course, first timers. There were even a few brought to the stage to be a part of the show. Every song was comical and all the jokes were hilarious, keeping the audience in stitches from start to finish!
To end the delicious finger-lickin’ feast, we were treated to a very much-talked-about dessert of homeade strawberry shortcake. “Yummy” is an understatement, to say the least. As the show slowly began to wrap up (and we were having too much fun with the washboard and a spoon), we found ourselves stumbling away, our sides aching from laughter and our stomachs filled to capacity. We were exhausted from all the fun and food and decided to make our way back to our Cabin in order to rest up for another day in the Parks. All-in-all, I, personally, had a wonderful time and I think my family the same. I would love the chance to return and experience this dinner show again during another Walt Disney World vacation. That kind of laughter is good for the soul.
