**RECEIVED 2018 BLOGGING BRANSON AWARD OF EXCELLENCE**
Every restaurant that becomes a “favorite” has a reason for doing so. Whether it’s a favorite dish, a favorite server, the ambiance, its location or a special annual event, there is something about the place that draws people to it again and again. For Fall Creek Steak & Catfish House in Branson, Missouri, it’s not just one thing that attracts the crowds. There are many reasons why people love eating here. One of the reasons I, in particular, enjoyed my meal and visit was because the entire experience effectively engaged every one of my five senses.
Disclaimer: I attended a media event as the guest of Niccole from The Creative SAHM. While this was an event sponsored by the Stone Castle Hotel and Conference Center, all opinions listed below are 100% authentic and mine alone.
Fall Creek Steak & Catfish House is another one of those Branson must-dos when you visit the area. In fact, it even holds the title for having “Branson’s Best Steak & Catfish!” Situated right next to the Fall Creek, it has been a popular dining establishment for over 20 years. With its unique decor, delicious southern cooking and hidden talents among the staff, this place certainly has a personality and attraction all its own.
~ Our Visit ~
As our work day was packed with excitement, we arrived to Fall Creek Steak & Catfish House for an early lunch. Our poor (and amazing) trip host felt like she was herding cats or baby ducks into the restaurant because we were all so fascinated with what we saw around us. Whether it was trying to capture the restaurant sign in the right light or making sure we took a photo of every single piece of memorabilia on the walls, she had quite the time trying to get us into our seats.
Needless to say, everything around us was captivating and attractive. There was so much color, so much nostalgia that it was impossible to not want to capture everything as a memory. Of course, that was just the beginning of our visit. Each and every one of our senses was about to be blown away with this one dining experience.
~ The Menu: Taste and Smell ~
As noted in the name, Fall Creek is well known for its steak and catfish entrees. However, the options certainly do not stop there. From the appetizing Awesome Blossom and variety of soups and salads they offer to the burgers, steaks, fish plates and ribs, there is something for everyone on their standard menu.
For groups traveling together like ours, Fall Creek has a special hand-picked menu designed to help customers pick one of their best dishes. Our group had the opportunity to order from their group dinner menu, which allowed us to choose from four different entrees: the house steak, catfish, smoked ribs or country-fried steak. Along with each entree, we were also served a salad and dessert, as well as the choice of tea (including sweet), coffee or water.
FYI: The lunch options for groups do not come with dessert.
I chose to go with the country-fried steak because I thought, well, hey ~ I’m up for some good ol’ country cooking and it’s not often I get to eat a dish like this. A friend of mine had the ribs and they looked and smelled delicious. They weren’t St. Louis style ribs. Rather, they were smoked and then smothered in barbeque sauce before being served. They certainly did smell scrumptious.
I really enjoyed my plate. The country-fried steak tasted amazing and was so hot and tender. The mashed potatoes were piping hot, as well, and tasted like home. Green beans ~ well, those are a perfect southern compliment to any dish.
~ Decor: Sight ~
Fall Creek’s decor is fascinating. It is honestly an antique lover’s paradise as its walls are adorned with artifacts from all around the Ozarks and surroundings areas.
With every turn of the head, you see something nostalgic that either brings you back to your youth or reminds you of your grandparents’ stories from theirs. From old soda brand and Route 66 signs to a life-size statue of the Blues Brothers, our eyes were mesmerized with all the color and history.
~ Tossed Rolls: Touch ~
Now, this is truly one of the most fun things about visiting Fall Creek Steak & Catfish House! Just about every five minutes, new hot rolls are ready for consumption. However, they are not delivered to you on a plate or even in a bowl placed on the table. Nope ~ the chef walks around the restaurant with his tongs and a bowl packed with fresh rolls and yells, “Hot rolls!”
If you are craving one, you simply raise your hand and he will toss one over to you! It is a very popular activity and catches the attention of everyone in the room. The rolls are VERY EASY to catch because they are so fresh, but not too hot where you drop them at first touch. Fortunately, I caught both of mine ~ even with my phone recording it all! Phew!
~ Singing Chef: Hearing ~
One of the most unique and hidden qualities of Fall Creek Steak & Catfish House is its talent! I just told you about the chef walking around tossing rolls. Well, what I didn’t mention was the fact that, every so often, the chef stops and takes a moment to entertain us. While we did not have opportunity to meet Rudy, the guitar-playing chef, we did meet an amazingly gifted young man by the name of Jeremy. Jeremy is a recent newlywed with a spectacular voice! During our time there, he sang at least twice for us and we were all astounded at the talent dripping from every note that bellowed out of his mouth. Here…take a listen!
~ Sensory Satisfaction ~
As you can see, dining at Fall Creek Steak & Catfish House is not just about eating good food. It is an actual experience for all five senses. Taste and smell the delicious southern cooking. See the classic memorabilia hung throughout the restaurant. Touch (catch) the fresh hot rolls as they are tossed to you. Hear the amazing musical talent of their chefs. I’ll never forget our visit here and highly recommend that you find an opportunity to try this place out yourself.
Food Allergy Note: While I did not have opportunity to speak with a chef regarding food allergies, I did speak with someone directly associated with the restaurant. It’s very much like any Branson restaurant I have encountered. They are very familiar with food allergies and do have the ability to provide allergy-safe meals. They do ask that, if you have the chance, you please call them ahead of time so they are best prepared. However, they understand that can be difficult and are able to discuss options on the spot, as well. Be sure to mention it when you arrive and to your server.
